There seems to be a lot of steampunk webseries popping up lately. The latest is Perpetual Steam Punk.

“Perpetual Steam Punk” is an episodic web series set in an alternate, steampunk, San Francisco.  It follows the stories of several members of the upper class in a post-apocalyptic San Francisco as they struggle to find and harness the elusive Perpetual Motion Machine.

Here is the trailer:

Looks fun. :)

I hope you all are having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! Yesterday I went to a friend’s house to celebrate her birthday. Today I cooked my first gluten-free Thanksgiving style meal. Yay!

I can’t remember the last time I made a turkey. My last apartment had a doll sized kitchen so no turkey would fit inside it. Luckily I had a friend who would cook me my free ShopRite turkey so it wouldn’t go to waste. My new apartment has a full sized stove. Huzzah!

For the last turkey I made though, I’m sure it was in a flour coated bag. So this would be the first turkey I’ve ever made outside a bag:

Turkey

The darker spots on the top are twigs of thyme I slid under the skin. A little bit of rosemary too.  I didn’t go by any recipe. I just winged it. I used unsalted butter to coat it and splashed some chicken broth and apple juice in the pan. I also jam-packed it with an herb stuffing:

Stuffing

The recipe I used for it came from Gluten-Free Girl, a site I live on these days. For the bread, I used both a white and a multi-grain version of the gluten-free bread. I altered the recipe at the end by not baking it since I stuffed it in the bird. Plus I needed it a little mushier for smashing so I added a little chicken broth and apple juice to soften it a bit.

While browsing Gluten-Free Girl’s site, I came across this recipe for cranberry relish that of course I had to make too:

Cranberry Relish

It’s super tart! I might have to sweeten it a tad next time I make it. :P

I also made  a chocolate cake. I used Betty Crocker’s Gluten Free Devil’s Food mix for the cake, but I changed the recipe a little. I cut more than half of the butter out and in place of water I used So Delicious drinkable coconut milk. It’s still cooling so there is no pic of it yet. I haven’t decided if I’m icing it with coconut pecan or milk chocolate frosting yet either.

So that’s that. I didn’t venture into potatoes or anything else this year. My friend sent me home with mashed sweet potatoes yesterday so I had that covered. Maybe next year.

Ruki had some turkey too. She ate a little, then hopped up in bed, and promptly passed out. Hee hee:

That image is the from of Wired Magazine‘s December issue. I’m months behind on reading them, but that blurb caught my eye. How easy is it to disappear in today’s age with digital imprints so easy to leave behind. And really, who hasn’t thought about disappearing and starting all over at least one time or another? This also reminds me I need to start using Tor. :P

In this particular case, writer Evan Ratliff attempted to vanish for one month. He and Wired ran a contest to see of people could find him. It’s a little harder to hide with an army of coders and investigators tracking behind you and hacking through your life—especially if you keep logging online to check what the hunters are up to. I thought it was an interesting read: Writer Evan Ratliff Tried to Vanish: Here’s What Happened

League of STEAM has a new video up. Yes, it’s cheesy but I’m amused that they took advantage of the New Moon lines for it.

League of STEAM #2: “New Moon Vampire Hunt”
After hearing numerous reports of vampires lurking near the local cinema, the League of STEAM arrives to investigate. Dark forces were covertly hidden among hundreds of “Twilight” fans as they waited in line for the midnight release of “New Moon”. However, with the team on the case, the unholy undead did not remain concealed for long…

The finale is up! Loved it! And now I’m only wishing the season was longer.

Season 3: Episode 12: Hero
It’s up to Codex to save The Guild all by her lonesome. Solo. No pressure, really.

Last night, the NCIS episode “The Bone Yard” was on USA. I had it playing in the background and then I heard this conversation between Gibbs and a mob boss:

Napolitano: “And Gibbs, you hurt my boy, I’ll kill your brothers, your uncles, your father. And after their funerals I’ll kill you.”

Gibbs: “No brothers, no uncles, my father passed years ago. I do have three ex-wives, whose names and addresses I will gladly fax on to you.”

[Napolitano hangs up the phone]

Gibbs: “Booh. He hung up.”

Hee hee. It’s moments like this one that show why I love this show so damn much. Gibbs rocks! His father is actually alive and well and moments between the two in a later episode are amusing too. :P

You can see the Gibbs /Napolitano phone conversation at about 3:37 in:

This is awesome! About about a minute in, this owl starts doing poses that are very much like a bird’s version of yoga. :P

When I watched the trailer, I never actually stopped to check out the cast. Duh. There are SF actors from from shows like Sanctuary, BSG, Eureka and SGU in this:

Christine Chatelain as Riese (Dark Angel, Sanctuary, Supernatural)
Sharon Taylor as Amara (Eureka, Smallville, Stargate: Atlantis),
Patrick Gilmore as Trennan (Battlestar Galactica, Eureka, Smallville, Stargate: SG1, Stargate: Universe)
Ben Cotton as Herrick (Harper’s Island, Stargate: Atlantis),

Pretty nifty. The first two episodes are up now and I finally sat down to watch them. It definitely has the feel of a TV series instead of a Webseries. Between that and the heavy SyFy shows the cast have been in, I’m wondering if that means it has a chance to follow Sanctuary’s route and become a TV series too. Awesome if it did. :)

The first episode of Adventures of the League of STEAM has been released. An amusing start…complete with slimer ooze. I’ll be curious to see where it goes. Heh. I’m hopeful that I’ll never see a steampunk version of the Ghost Busters theme song showing up in this. :P

Episode 1: “Monkey Business”
Mysterious disturbances have been reported near the site of the old zoo. Time for the League of STEAM to investigate!
