I’m obsessed with doming lately! I look at everything and wonder if it should be curved. Little pieces of metal watch out! :P Heh. Anyway, I tried making some domed penny buttons today:

I made them with a doming set and a heavy mallet. Mostly I smacked the hell out of pennies. It was pretty damn cathartic. :)

It takes more oomph than you’d think! And the loud noise can make kittens extra sulky and force them to go pout in the other room. Any guesses where Ruki is? :P Plus, you can run into problems like this:

Cracked pennies. At first I thought I’d tried to increase the curve quicker than the penny was ready, but the one with the cracked Lincoln head broke on the first hit. Weak penny? Or me having magically developed super human strength? Hmm. Not sure. Could be either really… :P

Then I mixed some epoxy putty and mushed some into the inside curve. Next, I added an O ring, placing it so part was in the putty and part out. If you try this, make sure some of the putty touches through the ring so it seals it in completely. And work quickly. The stuff smells awful and hardens on your fingers super fast. Ick. And ouch!

Mine aren’t fully dry yet. Not sure what I’m going to do with them but I’ll figure that out eventually. :D

The project I followed to make these is from EPBOT.

On a side note, I made another domed stamped disc bracelet—the first bracelet being the zombie sound effects one. This time I used smaller discs and stamped them with binary code:

And while I’m at it with my list o’ things I made today, I also baked a holiday ham:

I’m not usually a ham person but strangely enough, I was in the mood to make one this year. Go figure.

Yeah, it’s been a busy day, but good. It’s all been good…  Have a happy day! :)
