A tree near my bus stop.
Ruki is a little punchy today. Here she is attacking her bed.
Made an over-stuffed honey turkey today, based on the Game of Thrones inspired honey chicken recipe.
A brownie bite melting on top of a mailbox. Not exactly sure why it was left there, but I was strangely amused by it.
In this corner we have two spirited squirrels and in the other corner we have a determined looking dog. All that separates our fighters in this match is a flimsy fence…and a leash. :P
Flowers growing outside a dog park. No idea what kind they these are, but they are pretty.
Whew. Today was a cook-a-thon of sorts. I decided to make a feast for the Game of Thrones season 2 premiere (although I’m not watching it until tomorrow :P). Plus I had to make lunch for the workweek. And a tra la la I went. First up, were the paleo pumpkin-walnut muffins in the background of this pic. They weren’t make for the feast or for lunch. I was just in the mood for them. :P Next up was prepping to make 2 pork pies:
Here’s how they turned out:
I had some trouble with the top of the crusts. I was using a ready make pie shell. I just rolled it up and tried to roll it out as a shell top. Gluten free dough is fussy. That’s what I learned from this. Also, I’m not ready to make the pie shells from scratch. :P
Next I moved in to prep for a ginger butternut squash and apple soup:
And while that was cooking, I worked on my lunches for the week, General Tso’s Chicken:
I also make a Sansa salad and lemon cakes of course! :) While I didn’t take a final picture of the General Tso’s Chicken, you can see it in an old post here. It looks the same.
And although I posted the final Game of Thrones feast picture as part of my 365 photo challenge today, I’ll add it to this post too.
And yay for lemon cakes!
As for how things turned out, the pie is really yummy. It’s sweet, but not too sweet. The same can be said for the salad. I think I like the soup better without the apples. Or maybe next time I would try it with half the amount I used. I need to make the lemon zest finer next time. And that’s that.
As for the pics, I learned I like taking prep pics, but wow, that creates a lot of dishes. :P Also, I need to work on consistency with taking prep pics and final pics across the board. Yeah, I have a lot to learn about cooking and photography.
And yes, I am punchy and tired so this post is rambly and all over the place. It’s been a while since I cooked this many recipes in one day. I think the hardest part was keeping up with all the dishes! Whew. I may have to crash early now. :P
A very happy night to you! :)
My Game of Thrones feast! Pork pie, Sansa salad, ginger butternut squash apple soup, and elderberry honey wine. Lemon cakes are still in the oven. :)
Edit: Lemon cakes are up! :)
