Three day weekend! Woot! I’m going to be outside enjoying the sun while I can. But I figured I’d post a little something to entertain while I’m out.

Awe, when Death is your Mom and you just want more of her time, whatever will you do? :P

And an awesome live action short based on Portal:

Hope you have one excellent weekend! :)

Today our training class focused on JavaScript and JQuery. Oy. I got a headache right away and was reminded why I walked away from JavaScript about 10 years ago after one class. I’m also fretting my decision to take JavaScript through O’Reilly’s School of Technology too. If I already have a headache now, how will I survive a longer class, eh?

I needed some pampering so I raided Lush for bath bombs and ended up getting a sampler set of them. They came in this awesome tin:

I can’t wait to try them out. The O’Reilly class has more sessions than I have bath bombs. Maybe I’ll need more and I can use them as super stress relief after completely each lesson. :)

I also got a few more plastic figures. These I got from Kid Robot:

I think these two are even better than my finds from yesterday. :) The one on the left is a Mini Rolitoboy and the one on the right is a Dunny called The Golden Claw. The Dunny came with two claws and I tried to put one in each hand but his left hand was a little too closed up for it to fit. I found the perfect way to handle that:

Tail claw! Heh.

Yay! My wallet hates me for all my shopping this week but well? So what. :P

And now it’s time for a 3-day weekend. Have a happy one everyone! :)

Today’s lunchtime wanderings took me to I Heart Plastic and Kid Robot. I Heart Plastic’s website is down, but I linked to it there anyway. I acquired some new goodies for my desk:

Aren’t they cute? What’s awesome is that I got the mystery version on two of them. For those who aren’t familiar with these plastic figures, which one you get is a surprise. They list all the ones you might get on the side of the box, except one always has a question mark in its spot. I got two question mark figures. The jumping brain has a clear side filled with glitter. Must be where the magic stuff resides. :P And the other is from the Speaker Family. It’s the green guy with no neck. As for the other pieces, the little guy in the middle is a brief zipper pull. And the two wooden figures behind him are Ottis and Otto, and looking at that Stolle’s Neighborhood site, I’m definitely gonna need more of those! But I think my favorite may be the wooden Jibibut on the end. Yay! I can’t wait to set them up on my desk next week. :)

And since you can see Ruki’s ears over the top of the figures, here is what she’s doing this evening. Lounging on my coffee table. It’s a favorite spot for her. Occasionally she peeks up over my laptop to see what I’m up to or to try to steal a pen or my dinner.

That’s that for this rambled post. Hope you are having a wonderful evening! :)

I’m tired so I forewarn that there is much fatigue in this post. I’m in training classes all week through Noble Desktop – Advanced Dreamweaver and JavaScript/JQuery. The paying attention all day has me wiped. On top of that I’ve been doubling my normal walking routine because class is farther away than where I work. So, yeah, tired. But a good kind of tired.

What makes me happy is that this class has given me a few aha moments. I’ve been taking a refresher HTML/CSS class through the Oreilly School of Technology (one assignment left to go!) and man oh my, that class glosses over so much. I don’t even see things covered all that well in ebook they provide. I’ve been finding the O’Reilly CSS lessons in particular to be cumbersome and baffling. But in my Dreamweaver class, the CSS coding became clearer…simpler too. And that’s including whether I hand code it or use the Dreamweaver interface. This clarity will make my last project for the O’Reilly class so much easier now. Woot! I’m already signed up for JavaScript and XML classes with O’Reilly and based on how the HTML/CSS class has been going, I’m a little worried, especially since I have the same instructor for all of them. Fingers crossed that it goes ok….

The other thing that’s making me happy this week is that my class puts me close enough to a Blick store that I can raid it during my lunch hour. Today I did just that. I got a few new pieces of charcoal and a few conte crayons. I also got this set of pastels:

These are so pretty! I’m afraid to use them now. They look so pristine. It’s been so long since I’ve drawn let alone used pastels. And last time I used pastels, I stuck to black, white, and sienna. I decided to tray a sampler of some colors this time. I can’t wait! Should be fun! :)

I also got some marbled paper that I hope to try with a few Scherenschnitte patterns soon:

I have no idea how well this kind of paper will cut well but it’ll be fun to try it out. Yay!

And that’s that for how this week is going. Hope you are all doing fabulous this evening! :)

Man, I have been so bored this weekend. I’m grateful for the boredom though. I could have had worse to deal this weekend to deal with than just idle time.

I tried to take advantage of the forced time indoors and caught up on some homework. I’m taking a refresher course in  HTML & CSS. It’s through O’Reilly’s School of Technology. I only have a couple lessons left to do. I’m dreading my next class, JavaScript. It’s been a decade since I worked in that last and when I did, it made me miserable. I think that’s why I’m being slow about finishing these last few classes. :P

I decided to distract myself from homework by with knitting. It’s been a couple weeks since I knitted. I had been taking a 6 week class but I had to miss 2 sessions and will probably miss a third. Stuff came up. You know how it goes. So, I’ll be learning cable stitch and whatever else we were supposed to learn in class on my own. S’ok though. There are lots of videos online that show each step. Yay for that!

Anyway, I looked for a pattern and found this one on Lion Brand’s site. It looked good for a beginner so I  gave it a try:

I used what yarn I had on hand and cast on 50 stitches because that’s where the width felt right with this yarn to me. I’ve made a few mistakes but so far they aren’t horrible ones. They were probably made because I’ve been watching an X-Files marathon while I work. On Humbug now!

I plan to make it really long which will be perfect for keeping at the office. I sit on the windy side of the building and winters can be rough (especially when boilers break). I’m also planning on making a small blanket to wrap over my legs. Yes, it gets that cold!

While I’ve been bored this weekend, Ruki found the rain to be mesmorizing:

She’s also had an active weekend of sleeping and attacking anything in sight.

And that’s about it for what’s going on with us this weekend. I guess I should get back to knitting or *sigh* finishing those classes. Or I could work on math homework instead since I have that to do to. :P

Hope you are all hanging in there ok this weekend!

Ruki is so tired today from all the napping she’s done. What a hard life she leads. :P

Building a LEGO AT-AT Walker is an excellent way to spend a rainy Sunday. :) Sun’s coming back out now so perfect timing with finishing this. Woot!

I was surprised at how flimsy the neck is on this thing. When I attached it, it fell  off. The connecting piece was way to small to support the weight. I had to build in an anchor just to get it to stay on. Weird. A piece in the back didn’t fit like pictured either. Kind of baffling since I didn’t run into any of these sorts of problems while building the Millennium Falcon. Still awesome though!

And here is how Ruki spent her morning, beached on one of her scratchy boxes:

Hope you are having a great day! :)

This week we learned increasing and decreasing stitches in my knitting class. I’m kind of a spaz with these stitches. I react much the same way I do when surrounded by a zombies while playing Left 4 Dead 2. Needles…controller, doesn’t matter which I’m holding. Jab, smash, panic! Heh. Anyway, I did finally make the little bow tie shape we had to make this week:

The other part of our homework was to make a gauge swatch. These help us measure how well we are staying to size in a pattern. That way we can adjust to make sure the project fits how its supposed to. We had to make the swatch using a stockinette stitch, but this stitch tends to curl. A border in another stitch helps with that but we were asked to not do one. So there you have it, a project that rolls up into itself. :P

Next week we learn to cable stitch. Woot! :)

These guys are amazing! I keep wanting to fix their bows but I think their style is to have that piece flipping around. Seems to fit well with their high energy. :)

I have absolutely zero will power. Actually, I don’t believe I ever had any and I’m not exactly sure how one gets some. Do you have any ideas there? :P

Anyway, I went to the yarn store during my lunch today. I was on a quest to get cable needles that I need for class next week. But the cable needles were in the back of the store. I had to pass by all the yarn to get there.

Um. So, this is what happened:

I know, so much yarn! I swear it’s not my fault! The yarn…it started talking to me. Beckoning me to take it home and practice knitting with it. Who was I to resist? I suspect the yarn was just bored sitting there on the shelf.  But who can really know for sure? Perhaps yarn is simply social. :P

I did get a nice sampling of different types of yarn though. I’m hoping to see what it’s like using various the textures and types of yarn. Woot!

No idea how I’m getting it all home though. The sky demons are raging war outside at the moment. Perhaps there will be a calm hiccup when it’s time to go home. Hope so! :)
