Today I made my first pair of steampunk earrings. :) Woo-hoo!

I followed a how to featured in Steampunk Style Jewelry by Jean Campbell. This particular project is titled “Gearrings” and the design is by Jen Hilton. You can see by the picture what they are supposed to look like and how mine came out. I had to substitute a few pieces since I was just using what I had on hand. What I learned? Looping wire into a figure eight is really freaking hard. I can’t seem to make pretty rounded edges. It ended up more like a lopsided triangular object, contorted in the middle with a twist, hidden by a bead. Heh.

That’s that. I think I’m going to make something out of an empty pocket watch next. :)

Have a happy day!

This is too funny. League of STEAM did a Ghostbusters style commercial asking, “Whom shall you telegram?”

Enjoy!

I love this short film. It has an excellent haunted feel, the kids are great, and well, giant squid and all!

The Anachronism is an award-wining steampunk short about two children who discover the wreck of a giant squid submarine on a beach near their home.

Enjoy! :)

And for chatter on the Japanese parts, there’s a thread going on MetaFilter.

New Riese the Series episode is up. I keep waiting for something more to happen. The pace was a little better than ep 3, but it still feels like we are just biding time…

Episode 4: “Spares”
Unwilling to turn a blind eye to The Sect’s suspicious activities in Helmkin, Riese searches an eerie warehouse for answers.

If case you missed them:
Episodes 1: “The Hunt” & 2: “Fragments”

Episode 3: “Bind”

There seems to be a lot of steampunk webseries popping up lately. The latest is Perpetual Steam Punk.

“Perpetual Steam Punk” is an episodic web series set in an alternate, steampunk, San Francisco.  It follows the stories of several members of the upper class in a post-apocalyptic San Francisco as they struggle to find and harness the elusive Perpetual Motion Machine.

Here is the trailer:

Looks fun. :)

League of STEAM has a new video up. Yes, it’s cheesy but I’m amused that they took advantage of the New Moon lines for it.

League of STEAM #2: “New Moon Vampire Hunt”
After hearing numerous reports of vampires lurking near the local cinema, the League of STEAM arrives to investigate. Dark forces were covertly hidden among hundreds of “Twilight” fans as they waited in line for the midnight release of “New Moon”. However, with the team on the case, the unholy undead did not remain concealed for long…

The first episode: “Monkey Business”

When I watched the trailer, I never actually stopped to check out the cast. Duh. There are SF actors from from shows like Sanctuary, BSG, Eureka and SGU in this:

Christine Chatelain as Riese (Dark Angel, Sanctuary, Supernatural)
Sharon Taylor as Amara (Eureka, Smallville, Stargate: Atlantis),
Patrick Gilmore as Trennan (Battlestar Galactica, Eureka, Smallville, Stargate: SG1, Stargate: Universe)
Ben Cotton as Herrick (Harper’s Island, Stargate: Atlantis),

Pretty nifty. The first two episodes are up now and I finally sat down to watch them. It definitely has the feel of a TV series instead of a Webseries. Between that and the heavy SyFy shows the cast have been in, I’m wondering if that means it has a chance to follow Sanctuary’s route and become a TV series too. Awesome if it did. :)

The first episode of Adventures of the League of STEAM has been released. An amusing start…complete with slimer ooze. I’ll be curious to see where it goes. Heh. I’m hopeful that I’ll never see a steampunk version of the Ghost Busters theme song showing up in this. :P

Episode 1: “Monkey Business”
Mysterious disturbances have been reported near the site of the old zoo. Time for the League of STEAM to investigate!
